Guilford Ranked Eighth in Final Golf World/Nike Golf Poll

Greensboro, N.C. (5/13/09) -- Guilford College's men's golf team maintained eighth place in the final 2008-09 NCAA Division III Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Poll released Wednesday. Huntingdon College remained atop the poll after receiving nine of 16 first-place votes. Methodist University earned four first-place votes and is rated second, one spot ahead of the University of LaVerne. Illinois Wesleyan University and Oglethorpe University round out the top five. Coach Jack Jensen’s Quakers completed the season with a second-place finish in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships in Cape Charles, Va., Apr. 18-20. The performance marked Guilford's third runner-up finish of the season. The Quakers also placed second in the Sea Trail Intercollegiate Sept. 19-21 and at the Oglethorpe Invitational Oct. 20-21. The Quakers recorded eight top-five finishes this season.

Junior Peter Latimer posted a team-best 74.40 stroke average in 25 rounds, Guilford's 13th-best figure in school history. Junior Brian Creghan's 76.20 average stood second on the team, followed by senior Burton Wood's 76.68 in 25 rounds. All three students earned First Team All-ODAC honors, including Latimer, the league's Golfer of the Year.

Jensen, the ODAC's 2009 Golf Coach of the Year, could return as many as four letter winners for the 2009-10 campaign.
