Guilford Ranked Seventh in Golf World/Nike Division III Poll
Greensboro, N.C. (2/22/08) --Guilford College's men's golf team remained in seventh place in the first Division III Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Poll of the spring season released Feb. 22. Oglethorpe College took over sole possession of first place after receiving 11-of-14 first-place votes. Methodist University, which shared the top spot in the previous poll, slipped to second place, nine points behind Oglethorpe. Huntington College leapfrogged one spot head of Saint John's University (Minn.) into fourth place. Gustavus Adolphus College and Rhodes College also traded places for the spots immediately ahead of Guilford.
Methodist defeated coach Jack Jensen’s Quakers last week in the Johnny Palmer/Old North State Invitational Feb. 18-19. Guilford has five top-10 finishes in six events this year, including a win in the Oglethorpe Invitational last October.
Sophomore Peter Latimer owns the Quakers' lowest stroke average (74.31) by a slim margin over rookie teammate Jonathan Wade (74.45). Sophomore Brian Creghan's 75.31 average over 13 rounds stands third.
Guilford returns to action Feb. 25 and 26 as it hosts the Pine Needles Intercollegiate in Southern Pines, N.C.
