Guilford's Latimer Named ODAC Player of the Week

Peter LatimerGreensboro, N.C. (10/8/07) -- Guilford College sophomore Peter Latimer won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Golfer of the Week Award Monday. Latimer, a three-time winner in his career, also picked up Guilford's Student-Athlete of the Week prize, presented weekly by Guilford's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Latimer led the Quakers at the Greensboro College Invitational in Greensboro, N.C., by finishing fourth in a 90-student field Oct. 1-2. He shot a two-over-par 146 (71-75) and helped the Quakers place second among 18 teams. Latimer, who shot the Quakers' low round (71) in the opening round, has scored under par in three of five rounds this season. The performance marked his first top-10 finish this season and the third of his career. Latimer's stroke average of 72.20 in five rounds leads the ODAC.

The Greensboro Invitational marked Guilford's first top-five finish this season. Coach Jack Jensen's club is ranked first in the Oct. 3 Golfstat.com Division III Head-to-Head Rankings. The Quakers are hosting the Tom and Bettie O'Briant Memorial Tournament Oct. 8-9 at the Greensboro Country Club.

Guilford's SAAC is comprised of representatives from each of the school's 16 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among student-athletes and non-student-athletes on the campus. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a canned-food drive to benefit local charities and dodgeball competitions among representatives from Guilford's administration and athletic teams.
