Guilford Golfers Ranked Seventh In Final Fall Golf World/Nike Poll

Greensboro, N.C. (11/7/07) -- Guilford College's men's golf team dropped from third to seventh place in the final Division III Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Poll of the fall season released Nov. 7. Methodist University and Oglethorpe College tied for first place after receiving six- and seven-of-14 first-place votes, respectively. Saint John's University (Minn.) improved to third receiving the one remaining first-place vote. Rhodes College had the largest jump in the poll from twelfth to fifth, surpassing the Quakers.

Coach Jack Jensen’s Quakers defeated boht Methodist and Oglethorpe in the Oct. 22-23 Oglethorpe Invitational. They finished second in the Greensboro Invitational on Oct. 2. The Quakers also had two other top-ten finishes at the Tom and Bettie O'Briant Memorial and the Gordin Classic.

Freshman Jonathan Wade, who won the Oglethorpe Invitational, owns the Quakers lowest stroke average, 72.44, in nine rounds. Sophomore Peter Latimer is second on the team at 73.64 in 11 rounds. Sophomore Brian Creghan's 74.36 average over 11 rounds stands third.

Guilford returns to action Feb. 25 and 26 at the Pine Needles Intercollegiate Invitational.
