Guilford Ranked Second in Golf World/Nike Division III Coaches Poll
Greensboro, N.C. (4/13/07) -- Guilford College’s men’s golf team moved up one spot to second place in the NCAA Division III Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches Poll released April 4. The Quakers trail top-ranked Methodist University, which received all 12 first-place votes, by 14 points. Huntingdon College, Oglethorpe University and St. John's (Minn.) College round out the top five schools.
Coach Jack Jensen’s Quakers have finished in the top 10 in all four of its spring tournaments. Most recently, Guilford placed second in the 14-team Emory Spring Invitational where it defeated seven other ranked teams, including number-three Huntingdon and number-four Oglethorpe. The Quakers have finished in the top-five in six out of nine tournaments. They head into the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament April 21-23 leading the league with a team stroke average of 295.95 in 19 rounds.
Senior Joseph Poplin owns the Quakers' lowest stroke average, 72.21, in 19 rounds. Senior Colin Clark is second on the team at 74.82 in 17 rounds. Freshman Peter Latimer's 75.11 average over 19 rounds stands third.
