Western Carolina Wins Sea Trail Intercollegiate

Sunset Beach, N.C. (9/24/06) --  Matt Cook took the crown in a tie-break to lead the Western Carolina Catamounts to a victory at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate on Sunday afternoon.  Cook finished the tournament tied with Kris Shepherd of Kennesaw State after both men shot a 67 on day two to finish the tournament 10-under-par at 134.  Cook defeated Shepherd on the third hole of the tie-break.
 
WCU finished with a five-under-par 571 (286-285), one stroke ahead of Elon who finished second with a 572 (293-279).  James Madison, who led the tournament after the first round, finished third with a score of 575 (284-291).  Radford shot a 579 (293-286) to place fourth while Loyola finished fifth with a 581 (289-292).
 
Elon’s Jimmy Lytle shot a 67 on Sunday to finish third with a six-under 138.  David McAndrew (69-70) of Stetson and Adam Webb (70-69) of Longwood finished in a tie for fourth with a 139.
 
For Guilford, Joseph Poplin placed seventh with a score of 141 (71-70), while newcomer Burton Wood finished 32nd with a score of 148 (74-74).  Colin Clark shot a 150 (69-81) to finish tied for 49th, Scott Miller finished 77th with a score of 154 (75-79), and Steve Walton finished in 99th after shooting a 163 (85-78). Playing as individuals, Benjamin Beshad (75-76) and Peter Latimer (77-74) each shot a 151 to finish tied for 59th.
 
The Quakers return to action October 2-3 competing in the Greensboro College Invitational at the Meadowland Golf Club in Winston-Salem, N.C.
