Guilford Golfers Ranked Second in the Nation

Greensboro, N.C. (11/3/06) -- Guilford College’s men’s golf squad moved up a spot into second place in the Division III Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) / Bridgestone Coaches Poll released Oct. 26. The Quakers trail top ranked Methodist, which received eight first-place votes, and lead Emory, which received the remaining four first-place votes. Huntingdon and Rhodes round out the top five.

Coach Jack Jensen’s Quakers beat nine ranked squads, including Methodist, Oct. 15-16 at the 12-team Gordin Classic. The Quakers defeated Emory for the third time this fall as well as six other ranked squads at the Oglethorpe Invitational Oct. 30-31. Guilford finished among the top-five teams in four of its five fall tournaments and went 5-7-1 against Methodist, Emory, Huntingdon, and Rhodes.

Senior Joseph Poplin owns the Quakers' lowest stroke average, 72.00, in 10 rounds. Senior Colin Clark is second on the team at 74.13 in eight rounds. Sophomore Burton Wood's 75.00 average over 10 rounds stands third.

Guilford returns to action Feb. 26 and 27 at the Mid-Pines/ Pfeiffer Invitational.
