GUILFORD FINISHES 14TH AT TUNICA INTERCOLLEGIATE GOLF TOURNAMENT
Tunica, MS (11/1/05) -- Guilford College's men's golf team closed out the
fall season with a 14th-place showing among 15 teams at the Tunica National
Intercollegiate golf tournament Tuesday. The Quakers, the lone Division III team
in the Division I field, shot 327 in Tuesday's third and final round to finish
with a 968.
Southern Methodist shot 303 Tuesday and led from
start to finish. Belmont shot 291 Tuesday, the tournament's lowest round, and
rallied to finish second at 907, two shots off the lead. Alabama-Birmingham
(911), Kent State (917) and UNC Greensboro (920) rounded out the top five.
Colorado's Edward McGlasson shot 76 Tuesday and
won medalist honors with a four-over-par 220. Second-round leader Logan Young of
Mississippi State faltered with a third-round 79 to finish in third place at
222. Tulane's Michael Thompson placed second with a three-day 221.
Guilford's Colin Clark paced the Quakers
with a 237, which placed 48th in the 78-student-athlete field. He shot 76
Tuesday, the lowest round by any Guilford team member. Jeff Osberg shot
84 Tuesday to finish tied for 60th at 243. Rookie Ben Hicks was a stroke
behind at 244 after Tuesday's 81. Chris Lowman shot 86 to finish 72nd at
250. Joseph Poplin withdrew Tuesday due to illness.
