GUILFORD COLLEGE MEN'S GOLF TEAM IN 14TH PLACE AT TUNICA NATIONAL
Tunica, MS (10/31/05) -- Guilford College's golf team sits in 14th place among 15 Division I teams after two of three rounds at the Tunica National Intercollegiate Tournament. The teams played 36 holes Monday and finish the tournament with 18 holes Tuesday.
The Quakers are the lone Division III squad in the field and shot 316-325-641 Monday. Southern Methodist leads the tournament after shooting 300-302-602. Alabama-Birmingham (606), Kent State (611), Mississippi State (613) and UNC Greensboro (615) round out the top-five teams.
Mississippi State's Logan Young leads the 78-player field after shooting a one-under-par 143 (67-76) in Monday's opening rounds. Colorado's Edward McGlasson shot an even-par 144 and sits in second place. Jeff Osberg had Guilford's best score with a 15-over 159 (78-81), one shot better than teammate Joseph Poplin (82-78-160).
Guilford, the defending NCAA Division III national champion, is ranked second in the latest Bridgestone/Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Division III poll.
