Men's Golf Releases (2005-06) - Guilford's Clark To Play in Western Refining Golf Classic - Guilford College

  • CLARK TO COMPETE IN WESTERN REFINING COLLEGE ALL-AMERICA GOLF CLASSIC

 

      Greensboro, NC (11/8/05) -- Guilford junior Colin Clark has accepted an invitation to play in this year's Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic, hosted by the Sun Bowl Association. The tournament is scheduled for Nov. 20-22 at the par 71, 6,781-yard El Paso (TX) Country Club.

 

      Clark, the 2005 NCAA Division III national champion, is the only Division III golfer in the 32-player field, comprised of returning Division I All-Americans, plus the returning Division II and Division III champions. The 2005 All-America Golf Classic is the top-ranked collegiate tournament in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.

 

      Many Western Rifining College All-America Golf Classic competitors in the past have pursued successful careers on the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Tour. Past champions include Ricky Barnes (2000), Notah Begay (1994), David Duval (1991), Matt Kuchar (1999), Davis Love III (1984), Chris Nallen (2003), Jerry Pate (1974) and Tiger Woods (1995).

 

      Clark recently completed the fall season with Guilford's golf team. He played in five fall events and posted a 76.45 stroke average in 11 rounds. Clark's best performance was a first-place finish in the NCAA Division III Preview, where he shot 149. He also had fourth-place finish in the Gordin Classic, where he shot a season-low 145.

 

      With Clark's participation in the tournament, the Sun Bowl Association will award Guilford College a $1,000 scholarship.
