  • GUILFORD GOLFERS WINS SECOND STRAIGHT GORDIN COLLEGIATE CLASSIC

Surfside Beach, SC (10/18/05) -- Guilford shot a seven-over-par 295 Monday to win the 15th annual Gordin Collegiate Men's Golf Classic for the second straight season. The Quakers edged second-place Huntingdon by one stroke. Guilford, which has won three of four tournaments this fall, also defeated Huntingdon by a stroke last Tuesday (10/11) to win the Greensboro College Invitational.

The Quakers also won the 2000 Gordin title and have won three of the last six tournaments.

Most of NCAA Division III's top teams comprised the Gordin's 12-team field. The top-12 finishers at the 2005 NCAA Division III Championship received invitations to tournament. (12th-place Texas Lutheran did not attend this year's event.) All 12 squads are ranked among the top-17 units in the October 14 Golf Coaches Association of America Poll, including top-rated Methodist, number-two Guilford and the rest of the top-10 teams.

Guilford junior Colin Clark shot 73 on Monday and finished in fourth place among 59 individuals. Junior Joseph Poplin finished with a two-day 147 after shooting 79 Monday. He shot a career-low 68 in Sunday's opening round. Senior Jeff Osberg recovered from a first-round 77 and shot a two-under 70 Monday to finish with a two-day 147.

Huntingdon's Jacob Collinsworth won medalist honors with a 143 (71-72). Emory's Mike Lebow (70-74-144) finished second by one stroke for the second straight year.

The Quakers conclude the fall season Oct. 31-Nov. 1 in the Tunica National Collegiate Tournament in Tunica Resorts, MS.
