Men's Golf Releases (2005-06) - Guilford Golfers Lead After First Round of Gordin Classic - Guilford College

 

      Surfside Beach, SC (10/16/05) -- Guilford junior Joseph Poplin shot a career-low 68, four under par, to lead the Quakers to a seven-stroke lead after the first of two rounds at the Gordin Collegiate Classic Sunday at the Deer Track Resort.

 

      The tournament is comprised of the top 12 teams from the 2005 NCAA Division III National Championships, which was won by Guilford.

 

      Guilford, the defending Gordin champions, shot 291 Sunday and lead second-place Huntingdon by seven shots. Top-ranked Methodist and Emory are in third place after shooting 300 in the opening round. Guilford is ranked second in the latest Bridgestone/Golf Coaches Association of America Division III Poll.

 

      Guilford's Colin Clark, the defending Division III tournament medalist, shot an even-par 72 and sits in fourth place.
 

      The tournament concludes Monday.
