Myrtle Beach, SC (10/11/04) -- Guilford shot a five-over-par 293 in Tuesday second and final round to win the 14th Annual Gordin Collegiate Men's Golf Classic for the second time in five years. The Quakers, who started Tuesday's round in third place, also won the 2000 Gordin title. First-round leader Redlands finished in a second-place tie with Methodist. Central (IA) and Emory rounded out the top five.

Some of NCAA Division III's top teams comprised the Gordin's 12-team field. The top-12 finishers at the 2004 NCAA Division III Championship received invitations to tournament. (Defending national champion Gustavus Adolphus and 13th-place St. Johns (MN) did not attend this year's event.) All 12 squads are ranked among the top-16 units in the September 23 Golf Coaches Association of America Poll, including top-rated Methodist and number-three Guilford.

"This is a real good win for us," Guilford head coach Jack Jensen said. "This is a very prestigious tournament and we're pleased to play well two days in a row."

Guilford junior Brant Stovall (Lawsonville, NC/North Stokes) shot a two-under 70 Tuesday, his lowest round of the fall, and finished in a three-way tie for second place among individuals. Senior Dave Patterson (Fort Pierce, FL/Fort Pierce Central) fired a 72, his best round of the season, and had a two-round 147. Greenboro's Ryan Wilson won medallist honors with a two-day 143 (72-71).

The Quakers conclude the fall season October 23-24 in the NCAA Division III Championships Preview in Howey-In-The-Hills, FL.
