Winston-Salem, NC (10/08/03) -- First-ranked Methodist won the team title at the 2003 Greensboro College Invitational at the Meadowlands Golf Club on Tuesday.  Ogelthorpe's Trent Erb earned the tournament's individual medalist award.

The Monarchs, nine-time winners of the NCAA Division III crown, won a sudden-death playoff with Guilford on the first extra hole.  Both teams shot two-day totals of 574 (minus-2).  The two teams replayed the par-4 18th hole to start the playoff.  Methodist's Erick Arbe was the only player to birdie the hole, which broke the tie.

The Quakers started the day four strokes behind Methodist, and two shots back of host Greensboro.  Guilford's Tuesday total of 288 was four strokes better than both Methodist and LaGrange (which finished third).  The Monarchs and Quakers were the only teams to break par (576).

Erb shot rounds of 70 both days to finish at 140 (minus-4).  He bested Guilford's Daniel Day and two Monarchs--Renzi Lee and Eric Dugas--who all tied for second with a minus-three tally of 141.

Mason Crumpler of LaGrange shot the low score of the day with a 67.  He tied Greensboro's Brandon White for low round of the tournament.  Crumpler and Emory's Brian Nixon were fifth with a 142.  White tied for seventh with Guilford's Colin Clark.  They both posted minus-one 143s.

The host Pride finished fifth with a 592 total, one shot behind fourth place Huntingdon.

The GC Invitational was a regional tournament but boasted six squads ranked in the top 12 (and seven in the top 25) of the current Precept golf poll.  Additionally, the field features teams that won nine of the last ten national championships.

Meadowlands Golf Club played at 6,702 yards and par was 72.
