GUILFORD GOLFERS HONORED
Greensboro, NC (10/16/03) -- Guilford golfers Daniel Day (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) and Colin Clark (Durham, NC/Chapel Hill) received the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's Golfer of the Week Award in each of the past two weeks. Day, a sophomore, won the prize for the week of October 1-8 and Clark, a freshman, for the week of Oct. 8-15. Guilford golfers have earned each of the last three ODAC Golfer of the Week awards.
Day
(left) shot a three-under-par 141 at the Greensboro Invitational Oct.
6-7 and tied for second in the 89-player field. He helped the Quakers to second
place in the 16-team tourney as fifth-ranked Guilford lost in a playoff to
top-ranked Methodist by one stroke. Day's two-under 70 in the
tournament's first round marked the lowest of his career and his 36-hole score
of 141 is also a personal best. He leads Guilford with a 73.11 stroke average
through nine rounds and plays third in the Quakers' lineup.
Clark shared 19th place at the Unicco Fall Invitational Oct. 12-13 with a seven-over 223 in 54 holes. He helped Guilford finish 12th in the 14-team field with a three-round 903. Clark posted the team's lowest round of the tournament when he fired a one-under 71 in Sunday's second round. Through nine college rounds, rookie stands third on the team with a 74.33 strokes per round. He has played the Quakers' number-one position through the first four tournaments.
Coach Jack Jensen's club is coming off the aforementioned 12-place finish at the Unicco Fall Invitational. The team has finished fourth or higher in four of its first five tournaments. The Quakers close out the fall schedule Oct. 20-21 at the Pfeiffer/North Shore Invitational Oct. 20-21 at the North Shore Country Club in Sneads Ferry, NC.
