Greensboro, NC (03/31/03) -- Guilford junior Dave Patterson (Fort Pierce, FL/Fort Pierce Central) earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's Golfer of the Week Award, the league announced Monday. Patterson is Guilford's initial winner of the prize, which was first given March 23.

Patterson shot an even-par 214 over three rounds at the 32nd Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate Golf Championship March 28-30 at the Paradise Point Golf Club in Camp Lejeune, NC. Guilford finished seventh among 32 teams. Patterson placed among the top-10 individuals by shooting 75-66-73 over the three rounds. Saturday's four-under-par 66 on Paradise Point's Scarlet Course tied the Guilford record for the lowest 18-hole score. When combined with Sunday's one-over-par 73 on Paradise Point's Gold Course, Patterson posted the sixth-lowest 36-hole total in school history (139).

Through 17 fall and spring rounds, Patterson leads Guilford and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with a 72.06 stroke average and has placed among the top-10 individuals in six of eight events. The runner-up at the 2002 NCAA Division III National Championship, he ranks second among Division III golfers and 97th among all college golfers, according to the March 26 Golfstat Cup Standings. Patterson has had Guilford's lowest individual score in six of the team's eight events.

Head coach Jack Jensen's Quakers entered the Camp Lejeune Tournament ranked fifth in the March 26 Precept Golf Coaches Association of America Division III poll and the Golfstat Division III Head-to-Head rankings. Guilford, the defending NCAA Division III national champions, has placed among the top-five teams in four of eight events. The Quakers next compete April 14-15 in the Emory Spring Invitational at The Cherokee Town and Country Club in Dunwoody, GA.
