Greensboro, NC (10/01/02) -- Sophomore Mike Lefebvre (Camp Lejeune, NC/Lejeune) earned medalist honors and led Duke's "B" team to a record third-straight Tom O'Briant Memorial Golf Tournament Tuesday at the Cardinal Golf and Country Club. After shooting a tournament-record five-under-par 65 Monday, Lefebvre fired a 75 for a two-round 140, two shots ahead of Oglethorpe junior Trent Erb (Athens, GA).
The Blue Devils' second-round 296 was 11 shots higher than their opening-day total, but their two-day 581 topped the 18-team field by seven shots. Oglethorpe posted Tuesday's low round (288) and earned a second-place tie with Methodist and Wesley at 588. The Stormy Petrels also finished second in the 2001 O'Briant Memorial. Host Guilford, the defending Division III national champion, shot 300 Tuesday and rounded out the top five teams with a 595.
Wesley's Chris Noll (Dover, DE/Dover) and Zac Oakley (Lewes, DE/Greenwood Mennonite) carded Tuesday's lowest individual rounds with one-under 69. Noll, the defending NCAA Division III national champion, shot 143 over two rounds and shared third place with Guilford rookie Brant Stovall (Siler City, NC/Jordan-Mathews). Stovall had the Quakers' lowest score Tuesday with a one-over 71. Oakley finished in fifth place at 155.
Duke's 'B' team has won a record four O'Briant Memorial Tournaments in the past six seasons.
The event is played on the par-70, 6,671-yard Pete Dye-designed layout in northwest Greensboro. This year marked the 15th year of the O'Briant Memorial. Guilford hosted the same tournament from 1978-87 when it was called the Guilford College Invitational.
