Men's Golf Release - Greensboro Invitational - Guilford College

Clemmons, NC (10/08/02) -- The University of North Carolina's "B" team captured the team championship at the Greensboro College Invitational Golf Tournament, held at the Salem Glen Country Club. The Tar Heels shot a 2-day total of 572 and won the event by 9 strokes.

Methodist College's James Stewart defeated Oglethorpe's Corey Garner in a playoff to capture medalist honors. Both players finished 36 holes tied at 140.

The Tar Heels, who led by 2 strokes after the first day, had 3 players finish in the individual top-10. UNC B's second day round of 184 was even par. Fernando Figueroa led UNC with a 141 and third place finish.

Nine-time NCAA Division III champion Methodist College finished second with a 581. Oglethorpe shot 582 and was third. Defending tournament champion Averett placed fourth with a 599. Guilford College, last year's NCAA Division III champion, shot 602 and rounded out the top 5.

Greensboro College-the tournament host and 2000 NCAA champion-tied with Washington & Lee for sixth with a 607.
