Men's Golf Release - All-ODAC - Guilford College
Greensboro, NC (04/23/03) -- Following their fourth straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championship, three Guilford golfers received All-ODAC honors Wednesday. Junior Dave Patterson (Fort Pierce, FL/Fort Pierce Central) took home the 2003 ODAC Golfer of the Year prize. Freshman Brant Stovall (Lawsonville, NC/North Stokes) earned first-team All-ODAC laurels and classmate Chris Lowman (Siler City, NC/Jordan-Matthews) received second-team honors. Patterson, a two-time All-ODAC pick, is Guilford's fourth straight ODAC Golfer of the Year.
Patterson
has a 72.6 stroke average in 20 rounds, the best in the conference. He has had
the Quakers' best score in nine of 13 tournaments this year. The two-time
All-American leads the nation in par-five scoring and ranks third in the
nation in par-three and par-four scoring . He is ranked 136th among all college
golfers according to the April 30 Golfstat.com rankings and third in Division
III. This year, Patterson twice shot career-low rounds of 66, which tied
the school record. A two-time All-American, he was the first Guilford player
named ODAC Golfer of the Week since the award's inception earlier this year.
With
his 75.0 stroke average, Stovall ranks third in the ODAC and has the best
stroke average among freshmen. He posted the Quakers' best score in three tournaments this year. He shot a career-low 69 in the Marine Federal Credit
Union Intercollegiate Championship March 28-30. Stovall's best finish
came at the ODAC Championships, where he finished second overall in a field of
54 to earn All-ODAC Tournament recognition. He ranks seventh in the country in
greens hit in regulation (.623) and leads the Division III golfers in fewest
putts on greens in regulation (1.815).
Lowman
has a 76.0 stroke average, which ranks seventh in the ODAC and third on the
team. He has shot a personal-best 68 two times this season. His best finish was
a tie for ninth place at the Greensboro Invitational in the fall. Lowman ranks
seventh in the nation in fairways hit (.689), and led the Quakers earlier this
year with a team-best 10th-place finish at the Emory Spring Invitational.
Coach Jack Jensen's Quakers won the ODAC golf title for a league-record sixth time April 22. Guilford is ranked fourth in the most recent Precept Division III national poll and awaits the announcement of the 2003 NCAA National Tournament field May 1. The Quakers are the defending Division III national champions.
