Men's Golf Release - All-America - Guilford College

Greensboro, NC (05/21/03) -- The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) recognized Guilford golfers Dave Patterson (Fort Pierce, FL/Fort Pierce Central) and Ricky Gandhi (Patna, India/St. Michael's) for their performances during the 2002-03 season. Patterson received honorable mention PING All-America honors and Gandhi earned Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar recognition. Patterson also picked up PING All-South Region honors.

Patterson, the 2002-03 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Year, earned pre-NCAA Championship Tournament All-America honors as one of the South region's top-three players. He led Guilford with a 73.13 stroke average in 24 rounds, which ranks second in school history. Patterson stands 131st among all college golfers by the Golfstat Cup rankings, third among Division III golfers. Guilford's 2002-03 Undergraduate Male Athlete of the Year, he placed among the top-10 individuals in six of 11 events. Patterson tied the school record this spring with rounds of 66 at the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate and at the Emory Spring Invitational. His 36-hole score of 139 at the Camp Lejeune tournament stands sixth in school history. He recorded his best finish this season with a fourth-place showing at the Greensboro Invitational in October. Patterson received second-team All-America honors as a freshman and was a first-team All-American in 2002 after finishing second at the NCAA tournament.

Gandhi (right) placed sixth on the team with a 78.40 stroke average in 15 rounds. He was one of 30 All-America Scholars who maintained at least a 3.2 grade point average and averaged less than 79 strokes per round while playing in 70 percent of the team's total regular-season rounds. Gandhi posted his best finish at the Treasure Coast Classic in March where he finished 23rd in the predominantly Division I field with a two-day 151. He shot one of his two season-low rounds of 74 at the tournament. Gandhi is a dean's list economics and computer and information technology major.

Coach Jack Jensen's Quakers took 17th place among 23 schools at the 2003 NCAA Division III Championships. Guilford won its unprecedented fourth straight ODAC title and is ranked fourth in the May 7 Precept Division III Coaches' Poll. Despite losing three seniors from its 2002 NCAA championship squad, Guilford posted the seventh-lowest stroke average in school history (300.96). The Quakers are ranked 16th in the May 16 Golfstat Division III Head-to-Head Rankings.
