Guilford Adds Five Students to 2009 Recruiting Class

Greensboro, N.C. (6/29/09) -- Guilford College head football coach Kevin Kiesel announced the intention of five more incoming students to play football for the Quakers Monday. All seven students have made their deposit to the college and will enroll for classes beginning in August. They join 48 others who have already expressed their intention to attend Guilford and play football.

Blake Forlines (Richmond, Va.) lettered two seasons at Mills E. Godwin High School for coach Will Kitchen. The 6-0, 175-pound wide receiver/kick returner earned honorable mention All-Metro and First Team All-Colonial District honors for the Eagles. Forlines also received academic all-region recognition and was the team’s Special Teams Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008. He received all-region track recognition as a sprinter and was a state qualifier in 2009. The football offensive MVP and team captain considered Hampden-Sydney College, Elon University, and Christopher Newport University before choosing Guilford.

James Frazier (Thomasville, N.C.) lettered three seasons at East Davidson High School for coach Brian Lingerfelt. The 5-11, 265-pound center also participated in track and wrestling for the Eagles. Frazier received All-Central Carolina Conference football recognition and considered Averett University, Methodist University, and North Carolina Wesleyan College before choosing Guilford.

Joseph McCabe (Cornelius, N.C.) lettered three seasons at SouthLake Christian Academy for coach Richard Landis. The 6-6, 190-pound tight end received All-State football recognition and also lettered in basketball for the Eagles. McCabe’s brother, Jack McCabe, played soccer for the State University of New York at Albany.

Adam Pigg (Gastonia, N.C.) lettered two seasons at Ashbrook High School for coach Michael Briggs. The 6-2, 260-pound offensive lineman received All-Big South Conference football recognition and also wrestled for the Green Waves. A member of the National Honors Society, Pigg considered Wingate University before choosing Guilford.

Edrian Pumar (Potomac, Md.) played four seasons at Winston Churchill High School for coach Joe Allen. The 6-4, 300-pound offensive lineman earned the Student-Athlete Academic Award for the Bulldogs. He considered Catholic University before choosing Guilford.

Guilford concluded the 2008 season with a 4-6 overall record, 1-5 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Quakers lost nine seniors from the 2008 team and expect as many as 37 letter winners back in 2009. Kiesel’s club is scheduled to open the season Sept. 5 at 1:00 p.m. against Greensboro College in the 13th annual Gate City Soup Bowl.
