Football Release (2005-06) -Guilford's Vogelbach Named ODAC Offensive Player of the Week - Guilford College

  • GUILFORD'S VOGELBACH WINS SECOND ODAC FOOTBALL HONOR

Greensboro, NC (10/31/05) -- Redshirt freshman quarterback Josh Vogelbach captured the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's (ODAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week Award Monday. This is the second time this season Vogelbach has claimed the award, as he captured the honor after throwing for 395 yards and five touchdowns in week five. Vogelbach becomes Guilford's first two-time recipient since Dan Strelkauskas '98 won the award three times in 1997.

Vogelbach threw for 334 yards and a school record-tying five touchdowns in Guilford's 37-29 ODAC football win over visiting Randolph-Macon Saturday, which marked the fourth time in five weeks he tossed five touchdowns in a game. Versus the Yellow Jackets, he connected with four different receivers on scoring passes. Vogelbach tossed two touchdowns to Kevin Vaughn, and one each to Joe Joyner, Micah Rushing and last week's ODAC Offensive Player of the Week, Chris Barnette. He fired three scoring passes in a stretch of two minutes, eight seconds in the second quarter, helping the Quakers to a 28-7 lead.

With his performance Saturday, Vogelbach set school season standards for touchdowns (28), pass attempts (342), passing yards (2,527) and total offensive yards (2,608). He has set nine school records this year.

Vogelbach completes 58.5 percent of his passes and averages 315.9 passing yards per game. He stands second in the ODAC in total offense (326.1 per game) and touchdown passes and was 10th among NCAA Division III total offense leaders through games of Oct. 22.

The Quakers under first-year coach Kevin Kiesel posted back-to-back wins for the first time since 2002, having defeated Washington and Lee and Randolph-Macon in the past two weeks. They look to make it three straight when they visit ODAC-rival Catholic University this Saturday (11/5).
