Football Release (2004) - Adams All Region - Guilford College
- GUILFORD'S ADAMS EARNS REGIONAL FOOTBALL HONOR
Greensboro, NC (12/2/04) -- Guilford College punter Christian Adams earned Don Hansen's Football Gazette First Team All-South honors Thursday. A panel of South Region sports information directors selected the regional all-star teams for the 15th straight season. Adams was a Second Team Football Gazette All-South pick in 2003.
A
5-9, 165-pound senior, Adams became the Quakers' first student-athlete to
receive back-to-back First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)
football laurels since 1997. He led the league's punters for the third straight
season this fall with a 41.2-yards per kick average, the second-best figure in
NCAA Division III through games of Nov. 27. Adams kicked 63 times for
2,595 yards with a long boot of 64 yards against Washington and Lee Oct. 23. He
placed 16 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line and forced three fair
catches. The 2004 Football Gazette Preseason All-American averaged over 40 yards
per kick in six games and had 10 punts of 50 yards or more.
A 2003 Second Team College Sports Information Directors All-American, Adams set the ODAC record with a 40.14 career punting average and the Quakers' career standard with 188 punt attempts. He set the Guilford record and ranked fourth in Division III with a 41.6-yard punting average in 2003.
Coach Mike Ketchum's Quakers finished the season with a 1-9 record (1-6 ODAC). Guilford expects 48 letter winners back in 2005.
