COLLIER NAMED GUILFORD STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Greensboro, NC (2/16/06) -- Logan Collier won the Guilford College Student-Athlete of the Week Award Thursday. The award is presented by Guilford's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and includes competition Feb. 6-12.
Collier,
a 6-7 junior pitcher, helped the Quakers' baseball team to its first win of
2006, a 13-4 road triumph over Piedmont Feb. 12. The right-hander threw seven
shutout innings and struck out a career-high nine batters. He scattered five
hits and walked four batters. Collier raised his career record to 11-7 in three
seasons and has 74 career strikeouts in 94 innings.
Coach Nick Black's Quakers (2-1) play the second of eight straight home games Feb. 18 against Montreat. Guilford hosts NCAA Division II St. Paul's Saturday (2/18) at 12 noon and Division III's ninth-ranked team, Ferrum, Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Guilford's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is comprised of
representatives from each of the school's 16 varsity teams. The group meets
regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build
community among student-athletes and non-student-athletes on the campus. Other
recent Guilford SAAC activities include a canned-food drive to benefit local
charities and dodgeball competitions among representatives from Guilford's
teams.
