GUILFORD WINS THIRD STRAIGHT BASEBALL GAME, 11-3 OVER MONTREAT
Greensboro, NC (02/16/06) -- Phil Drew went three-for-five with a homer and three RBI in Guilford's 11-3 home win over Montreat Thursday at McBane Field. The Quakers jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the fourth inning en route to their third straight win.
Drew
hit a two-run triple to right-center field in the Quakers' first inning and
added a solo homer, his first of the year, in the eighth inning for Guilford's
final run.
Rob Bittner went two-for-three and knocked in two runs with a single in Guilford's four-run third inning.
The offensive outburst gave junior right-hander Dave Whigham a nice cushion with which to work. Guilford's opening-day starter evened his record at 1-1 with 5.1 innings for six-hit ball. He yielded two earned runs, walked two and struck out six.
The Quaker resume their eight-game homestand Saturday with a noon contest against NCAA Division II St. Paul's.
