TOD GROSS NAMED ASSISTANT BASEBALL COACH AT GUILFORD COLLEGE
Greensboro, NC (11/1/05) -- Tod Gross was named assistant baseball coach at Guilford College Tuesday by Athletic Director Marion Kirby. Gross will work with the Quakers' infielders and outfielders under first-year head coach Nick Black.
Gross
spent the past three seasons coaching the infielders at Franklin & Marshall
College in Lancaster, PA. The Diplomats recorded three of the top-four defensive
seasons in school history under Gross' watch, including 2005 when they
established a school-record .955 fielding percentage. Franklin & Marshall won
the 2005 Centennial Conference title and advanced to the NCAA Division III
Championship Tournament. Gross tutored three all-conference players and
one all-region pick during his stay in Lancaster. He gained additional coaching
experience by working with the Quarryville (PA) American Legion team and at
various camps and showcases.
A 2002 Shenandoah University graduate, Gross started coaching as a baseball assistant at his alma mater. He lettered with the Hornets' baseball squad from 1998-2001 and captained the team as a junior and senior. Gross won Shenandoah's inaugural Irene A. Schutt Award for dedication and inspiration. He earned his bachelor's degree from Shenandoah in communications, with a specialty in athletic communications. The Manheim, PA, native lettered with the baseball and basketball teams at Manheim Central High School.
The Quakers return 23 letter winners from last year's 24-17 club. Guilford's 2006 season opener is scheduled for Feb. 11 at Piedmont.
