GUILFORD RALLIES FOR 9-RUN SEVENTH INNING TO DEFEAT AVERETT, 10-8
Greensboro,
NC (2/15/06) -- Mike Chelenza's 2-run HR capped Guilford's nine-run 7th
inning and broke an 8-8 tie. Phil Drew's three-run double tied the game
before Chelenza's winning hit. Guilford scored all nine runs with two
outs in the inning and had eight straight runners reach safely.
Matt Spoerlein earned the win in relief of starter Chris Raines (Roxboro,
NC/Person).
Averett hit four solo home runs off of Raines and opened an 8-1 lead. Pierce
Steinruck (Barrington, RI/Barrington) belted two home runs for the Cougars.
Steinruck and Matt Fitzgerald (Fairfax Station, VA/Hayfield) led off the top of
the fourth inning with consecutive solo homers.
Guilford hosts Montreat Thursday (2/16) at McBane Field. First pitch is 2:30
p.m. Averett hosts Bridgewater Saturday (2/18) at 1:00 p.m.
