GUILFORD BASEBALL TEAM FALLS AT NC WESLEYAN, 9-4
Rocky Mount, NC (2/19/05) -- Host North Carolina Wesleyan scored six runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 9-4 nonconference win over Guilford Saturday afternoon. Senior Brian Massey drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk to force in the winning run for North Carolina Wesleyan (5-3).
Guilford falls to 3-3 with its second loss in as many games.
The Quakers led, 4-3, after seven innings and starter Matt Spoerlein pitched effectively into the seventh inning. Senior Adam Comstock replaced Spoerlein but struggled with his control and was lifted for sophomore Logan Collier. Guilford pitchers combined for five consecutive walks in the bottom of the seventh inning.
North Carolina Wesleyan's rally made a winner out of junior reliever Hunter Smith the third of four Battling Bishops pitchers.
Guilford returns to action Sunday (2/20) against NCAA Division II Bluefield State. The time of the game has been changed from 2:00 p.m. to 12 noon due to the forecast of rain in the Greensboro area.
