Guilford College Art Gallery

The Guilford College Art Gallery is located in Hege Library and houses the College’s Permanent Collection of approximately 1,500 works of art. Throughout the academic year, the Gallery presents rotating exhibitions that emphasize modern and contemporary art reflecting social & cultural issues congruent with the college's Quaker tradition. Programs and events for students accompany each exhibition and include lectures, films, performances, and/or workshops. Students have the opportunity to interact with visiting artists in gallery talks, classroom visits, by sharing a meal, and occasionally, by having critiques in the students’ own studios.

Original works of art from the Permanent Collection are displayed in galleries and study areas throughout the library and in other campus buildings, offering students a focal point for discourse, dialogue, enjoyment, and reflection. Temporary and permanent public sculptures displayed throughout the campus also animate and enliven the environment. The Gallery is committed to being accessible, welcoming and meaningful to diverse audiences and to collaborating with academic partners to increase and improve its service to underserved audiences.

Internships and work study jobs in the Art Gallery are available to students from all academic disciplines and offer students the opportunity to become familiar with a range of museum careers. Recent interns have compiled exhibition catalogues, helped to curate exhibitions, conducted research, photographed Collection objects, and assisted with webpage design and social media updates.
