Patrick Dougherty’s
Disorderly Conduct
Created February 2 -21, 2011;
on view indefinitely.
More than 100 volunteers, including students from Guilford, UNCG, NC A&T, and Canterbury School, alumni, faculty and staff and community members coming from as far as Charlottesville, Va., participated in the construction of this public sculpture on the Guilford College Quadrangle. A small, walnut-sized, paper wasp nest found by a student during the sapling harvest inspired the artist’s design. The small hive, made up of many individual cells that together formed a strong shelter for a swarm of busy bees became a metaphor for the Guilford College community to him.
