Which Credits will Transfer?
As a transfer student, you earn credit for courses taken through college programs at accredited junior colleges or community colleges and for courses taken at accredited four-year colleges and universities. The First Year Experience course is waived for students transferring 12 hours or more.
Up to 64 semester hours of credit is allowed from two-year institutions. There is no limit to the number of semester hours that may transfer from regionally accredited four-year colleges. Credit is allowed only for courses with a grade of "C-" or higher.
Here are some general transfer rules:
- Courses must be in the same department as Guilford offers or must be similar in nature.
- If a course is not in a department that Guilford offers, it will be evaluated individually and may transfer as elective credit.
- Courses with a "C-" or better are transferred. Both the hours (credits) earned and the course itself will usually transfer. The grade does not transfer.
- Courses that are considered general college courses, such as sociology, history, literature, art, etc., usually transfer. Developmental courses do not transfer credit.
Please note: Guilford is based on a four-credit-hour system. Three credit classes are accepted and will be given conversion credit when appropriate. Click here to see how your credits will transfer to Guilford College.
To graduate, students must complete a minimum of 32 semester credits at Guilford College and satisfy all degree requirements. A minimum of 128 semester credits is required to graduate, and at least half of the major (16 credits) must be taken at the College.
Students must live on campus unless they are 23 years of age. The application for housing can be found on the web-site, www.guilford.edu/reslife.
Students who are ineligible to return to their institution may be considered for admission to Guilford College after remaining out for a minimum of one year.
