Guilford College welcomes students who are currently attending other colleges and universities but wish to finish their bachelor’s degree here.

Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to Guilford College, transfer students must:

  • Supply official college transcript(s).
  • Course descriptions for each class you have taken, in a Word Document, are required (you do not need to supply this for any North Carolina Community College classes).

  • Submit a completed Dean of Students Form.

If you have earned less than 30 semester hours at other institutions, you must supply your high school transcripts in addition to either SAT I (Guilford SAT code: 5261) or ACT (Guilford ACT code: 3106) scores OR an Academic Portfolio of two writing samples.

Recommendation letters are optional.

Sophomore if transferring in with 25-55 semester credits
Junior if transferring in with 56-87 semester credits
Senior if transferring in with 88+ semester credits

Transferring Credits

As a transfer student, you will receive credit for courses you’ve taken at accredited junior colleges, community colleges, four-year colleges, and universities. Up to 64 semester hours of credit is allowed from two-year institutions. There is no limit to the number of semester hours that may transfer from regionally accredited four-year colleges. Credit is allowed only for courses with a grade of “C-” or higher.

While Guilford is based on a four-credit-hour system, three-credit-hour classes are accepted and will be given conversion credit when appropriate.

To graduate, students must complete a minimum of 32 semester credits at Guilford College and satisfy all degree requirements. A minimum of 128 semester credits is required to graduate, and at least half of the major (16 credits) must be taken at Guilford.

What Credits Transfer

This system is used to determine how courses completed at other institutions are equated as transfer credit at Guilford College. This information is taken from the database maintained by Admission and is the same information used to award transfer credit. If you do not see the course you are seeking to equate, it is because that course has not been evaluated.
