To be considered for admission to Guilford College, international students must submit:
- The Common Application, but you will also need to complete our Common Application Supplement Form.
- Official transcripts of all academic coursework to date, including certificates of completion, external examination results and/or diplomas must be mailed to the admission office. If your final year of education is still in progress at the time of your application, submit nay and all documentation you have up to this time. Guilford College requires properly certified English translations of transcripts for review
- Provide a complete and true Certificate of Finances (COF). We encourage you to reference the COF Instructions. U.S. Immigration requires that all international students submit a Certificate of Finances indicating ability to cover their educational costs prior to issuance of the I-20 document used to secure a student visa
- One or more letters of recommendation are recommended but not required for admission evaluation
- A personal essay that explains why you want to attend Guilford College
- A TOEFL or IELTS score report. Although you do not need to be proficient in English for admission to Guilford College, we urge you to submit your scores on the TOEFL or IELTS if you have taken them. We will use the score for placement purposes and can offer intensive English classes if you need them. There are other ways to be exempt from English remediation. See the “Demonstrating English Proficiency” section for further information
- SAT I or ACT scores (optional, but can be beneficial for obtaining scholarships)
American citizens living abroad must also use the Common Application, but you will also need to complete our Common Application Supplement Form. American citizens living abroad do not need a Certificate of Finances, but do need to demonstrate English proficiency if English is not their first language.
