Boat Races at Guilford?
For several years, students in David Newton's (Art) 3D Design class at Guilford have been asked to design "boats" as part of a class project. The goal of the class assignment is to work as a group, design, and construct a boat out of cardboard that goes across the lake on campus and back with one or more people in it. The project combines the students' brainstorming skills with essential skills required for group work. David says the project helps to develop teamwork, technical drawing, time management (it's a very short time frame,) planning, measuring, cutting and fabricating on a relatively large scale.
With boat names like Mt. Olympas, Bad Dentist, Spill, and Pocahontas you know this project has to be fun! Check out some of the photos from the boat race. (Photos provided by David Newton)
