The Learning Commons (LC) is ready to help you become a more efficient and self-directed learner. The LC offers professional tutors and peer tutors, in group or individual sessions. Professional tutors help students with quantitative skills, writing, study skills, test-taking and time management. Students are active in our peer tutoring groups: chemistry (students can help you with intro-level chemistry courses) and a large Student Tutoring Service (tutoring in specific courses across the curriculum).

The LC is not just for first-year students. Even seniors in the honors program use the services!  So you should feel very comfortable about bringing your papers or academic questions to the LC. The staff will try to help and/or put you in touch with other campus resources that can help you as well. In addition, you can be your own best advocate by talking to your professors and being clear with them about your gifts and glitches. Remember that you're "the boss" in that you are in charge of your own learning when you become a college student. Learning will be triggered in class, but often the real work is accomplished in your own exploration and study. You may, however, need some help from the LC as you take charge of your learning in this new and significant way.

If you have a disability, be sure to be in touch with Disability Services. Check out the disability disclosure process on the ADA web page, www.guilford.edu/ada, and contact the Disability Services Coordinator at 336-316-2451 to clarify any questions you have and to provide information needed to serve you well.

Plan to create a system that will lead to your success at Guilford. Let the LC help.
