What We Look For in Students

Guilford College is a rigorous academic environment. The successful student at Guilford has had vigorous preparation in several college preparatory, advanced and honors classes in high school. Guilford encourages motivated seekers to accept the challenge of a Guilford education.

While no exact quantity of courses is required for admission, the evaluation process is holistic and complete. Student's courses and grades are paramount in the process. A majority of Guilford first-year students place in the top third of their high school class and have a strong "B" average. Since Guilford is a writing intensive environment, a student's preparation in this area will be studied closely. Standardized test scores are evaluated (when presented -- Guilford is a SAT/ACT optional institution -- refer to the Academic Portfolio option if this is your choice) with the verbal section carrying slightly more importance. The middle 50% rank is approximately 1050-1270. More details on statistical averages are available on the first-year class profile.

Personal interviews are subject to availability . Other factors used in the evaluation process include extra-curricular engagement and high school environment.
