You and your family should plan to arrive on campus between 8 a.m. and

2 p.m. on the assigned date. Go directly to Founders Hall, where you will receive your orientation schedule and have a chance to talk with campus administrators, faculty and student leaders. You will also receive a room key, telephone information and a Student ID and will have a chance to check in with the folks from health services, parking services and college work-study. You must check in on your arrival date in order to be officially "present" at the college.

If you are not going to be living on campus, you can check in any time between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. You are welcome to participate in any of the afternoon activities.

Below is a list of scheduled events for the day. You will receive a more detailed agenda upon arrival. Please plan to arrive during the scheduled times. If you need to make alternative arrangements, you must contact the First Year Center at 336-316-2425.

Along with a college welcome by President Kent John Chabotar and other members of the Guilford community, there will be time for you to settle into your room, for your family to meet college administrators and advisers, and for a campus tour.

Returning fall athletes and international students will arrive on the dates listed above. These students will move directly into their residence halls upon arrival, participate in their program and begin CHAOS on Thursday, August 14.

CHAOS

Orientation--CHAOS: August 13-17, 2008

CHAOS (Community, Health, Advising and Orientation Services) is your bridge to the first semester. During CHAOS, you'll get settled into your residence hall, spend time in small group discussions and activities, find out about campus resources, and focus in on some key issues for living in community: cultural diversity, learning styles and differences, and personal responsibility and decision-making. By the time CHAOS is over, you'll recognize familiar faces on campus, be clearer about your academic and personal goals and feel more confidence in yourself as a member of the Guilford community.
