Bauman Labs
There are two public labs and two computer classrooms in Bauman. The labs have both PCs and Macintosh computers, and there are scanners available for student use. Student labworkers in Bauman are available at scheduled times until midnight, Monday-Thursday and on Sunday. First-year students are invited to become student lab workers; look for information at the Student Employment Info Session. In addition, there are public computers and wireless laptops available in Hege Library.
All first-year students receive a network account and email and are required to attend a training session during CHAOS. During this session students set up their e-mail account and are provided training on the network.
Getting On-line from Your Room
Let us first say that it is not a requirement to own a computer at Guilford. You may use the public labs in Bauman if you do not own your own computer. You may also bring any kind of computer that you want, but if you are planning to connect to the college network you will need to bring a system that meets college specifications1 . Specifications will be available for the 2007-2008 academic year in April (for both PC and Mac). These specifications can be viewed in April or by calling the Help Desk at 336-316-2525.
When you check-in in August, the Department of Information Technology and Services (IT&S) will be there to answer your questions and assist you with your in-room connection.
Software Support You Can Count On
IT&S is currently developing the 2007-2008supported software list. Details will be available via our Web site in April or by contacting the IT&S Help Desk for assistance at 336-316-2525.
1 Specifications are reviewed each year by the Information Technology Advisory Committee. This committee is made up of Guilford faculty, staff and students who work together on technology standards, policy and long range planning.

101 Bauman Telecommunications Center
Guilford College provides telephone service to residential students with each room or suite having a campus extension.
There are no charges for on-campus or local calls. If a student moves to a different room he/she will receive the telephone extension number associated with that room/suite.
To place long distance calls, students can bring calling cards (charged to your home number), purchase prepaid calling cards from the Bookstore, or use their own cell phones.
Any questions about Guilford's phone service and voice mail system will gladly be answered during CHAOS. If you have questions before that time you can contact the IT&S Help Desk at 336-316-2525 or Telecommunications at 336-316-2139 or check the Telephone and Voice Mail Services Web site. Additional information relating to the use of Guilford's phone system can be found in the Student Handbook.
Campus Mail Service
Guilford Mailroom, 336-316-2315
Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Founders Hall, basement
The student mail office is the one central location for mail pickup (letters, parcels, magazines, etc.) Since all mail including campus mail is sent to these boxes, students are encouraged to check their mail regularly. Each student is assigned a combination mailbox, which remains the same during the student's entire stay at Guilford. Residential students will receive their campus mailbox numbers with their housing assignment during the summer. Commuting students will recieve their box assignments during registration at the start of school.
Packages may be sent to students at their campus box address either by U.S. Mail, United Parcel Service (UPS), Federal Express (FEDEX) or other delivery services. Packages cannot be delivered directly to the residence halls. Not all levels of service are available through the student post office. For example, the sale of registered, certified or insured mail is not available. Postage stamps, both domestic and foreign, may be purchased at the student post office. We do not send out foreign parcels. Domestic packages may be sent out, but there is a one-pound limit.
