Being a student-athlete at Guilford is an exciting challenge. New athletes will automatically have an opportunity to get involved in the life of the college early in their Guilford education. Visit the Guilford Athletics web page for sports schedules. Feel free to be contact the Athletic Director regarding your athletic interests.

As you make your course selections, pay attention to athletic dates and find a way to manage both your studies and your commitment to the team. You can expect that practice will take place daily from approximately 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. (in season) and that you will weight lift and condition in the off season.

Arrival dates for Fall athletes (football, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross-country, volleyball) will be announced at a later time. During CHAOS (new student orientation), you will have your physicals, receive equipment, have pictures taken, begin practice and meet with members of the Guilford community who will help prepare you for the athletic and academic challenges ahead. All Guilford athletes must attend a required student-athlete orientation meeting during CHAOS in Dana Auditorium. A completed insurance form (mailed to you during the summer) and physical examination are also required for all student-athletes prior to practice.

For those students interested in a somewhat less intense athletic experience, Guilford offers club teams in men’s Rugby, women’s Rugby, men’s and women’s track, and coed ultimate Frisbee. These teams are funded by the student senate, and enjoy heavy participation.

The college also boasts of a comprehensive intramural program, with opportunities to participate in basketball, dodgeball, flag football, floor hockey, miniature golf, soccer, tennis, and volleyball. Intramural sports are open to all members of the college community, and interested parties may join together to form teams.

The goal of the Intramural Program is to provide the students, faculty, and staff of Guilford with a recreational program that offers a variety of alternatives to "free play" and varsity athletics in terms of organization and competitiveness. The program attempts to provide traditional team and individual activities as well as recreation on a less competitive level. Intramural participation should provide a physical outlet that complements the academic life on campus. Intramurals promote good sportsmanship through a variety of team, individual and coed activities that enhance the potential for social growth.

Through Intramurals we attempt to provide opportunities to participate in recreational activities for as many students as possible. It is a program run by students for students and depends completely on the cooperation of all parties involved. Team captains accept the responsibility for his/her team knowing and abiding by the rules of the game, being ready for scheduled activities on time and most importantly that the team participates in a way that exhibits good sportsmanship.
