51. Are there telephones in all the rooms? Computers?
Each room has a telephone jack, though individual phones are not provided. In addition two computer ports are also in every room.
52. What goes on in the Student Center?
Many clubs hold their regular meetings in Founders Hall. Campus publications, the radio station, and specialty organizations have offices located on the second floor. There is a game room located in Dana Lounge, and the Underground Subway is located in the basement.
53. Are legal services provided? What is the cost?
No legal services are provided.
54. Is free laundry service provided to students?
Card-operated washers and dryers are located in every residence hall on campus. There is a charge for usage. There is no linen or laundry service available on campus.
55. Is Sunday morning chapel mandatory?
Each Sunday at 1pm there is a chapel service on campus. However, several on campus religious organizations hold informal services throughout the week. You may contact Max Carter @ 316-2445 for more information.
56. Can someone meet me at the airport when I come for a visit?
While this service is not guaranteed, we will do our best to arrange transportation with proper notification.
57. My school(university) is on the quarter system. How will ¼ hours transfer?
Contact Steve Shapiro, Associate Academic Dean, for information regarding transfer of quarter credits.
58. Do you have "co-ed" dorms?
Yes. Binford and Milner are co-ed by floor/room. Bryan and the student apartments are co-ed by suite.
59. Are there any Jewish students? What are the special arrangements?
Percentage of Jewish students - 2%. Hillel is an on-campus organization.
60. How many students go to your institution? Undergraduate and Graduate?
Approximately 2,700 undergraduate students attend Guilford (1,348 traditional students, most of whom live on campus; 1,299 adult students, all of whom live off campus; 95 Early College students, 11th and 12th graders, all of whom live off campus).
61. What are the dorms like?
Each room contains a twin bed (extra-long sheets), a desk and chair, a dresser, and a closet or wardrobe for each student. Also, window blinds, network computing access, and cable television access are included in each room. Each hall contains laundry facilities, vending machines, bath facilities (shared by the floor), lounges and kitchenettes.
62. How's the food?
Dining is managed by the Sedexho and all on campus students eat on the Carte' Blanc plan, which allows unlimited visits to the dining hall during the semester. Food is available in an all you can eat format, and include both hot and cold entrees, salads, soup, pizza, deli, desserts and more. Special dietary needs (such as vegetarianism) can be accommodated.
63. How much do people study? How competitive is it?
The amount you study is up to you, but it is important to remember that the majority of classes at Guilford involve a good deal of writing, personal reflection, and mental processing. In general, you can count on at least 2-3 hours of homework per night. There are no class rankings, though an exceptional GPA is acknowledged through various academic distinctions, such as Dean's List.
64. Are you a "suitcase" college?
No. It is the aim of the Student Activities department and the Student Union to provide a variety of activities for students over the weekends. These include coffeehouses, concerts, movies, plays, sports and other recreational activities.
65. What is your acceptance rate into medical school? Law School?
In the past two years, most pre-med and pre-law student got into their first or second choice school.
66. How many classes per semester/quarter does a student take?
Students take an average of 16 credit hours per semester, or four courses.
