Admission Requirements
Although admission requirements vary slightly for specific schools, most veterinary schools require the following courses:
- Biology 114 (Zoology)
- Biology 313 (Cell Biology)
- Biology 433 (Microbiology)
- Biology 434 (Biochemistry)
- Biology 443 (Genetics)
- Chemistry 111 (General)
- Chemistry 112
- Chemistry 231 (Organic)
- Chemistry 232 and 235
- Physics 211 or 121 (General)
- Physics 212 or 122
- Two college-level mathematics courses
Additional course requirements in English, the Humanities, and the Social Sciences are usually satisfied by completing
Recommendations
Preveterinary students should take Chemistry 111 and 112 in their first year.
Animal Nutrition is required by
First-hand experience in the field of veterinary medicine is necessary for a successful application. This may be accomplished through an internship, summer employment, volunteer work, etc.
Students wishing to apply to vet school should take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). Information about test dates and application materials can be obtained from www.gre.org.
Application Process
Prevet students should complete and submit their veterinary school applications during the summer between their Junior and Senior years.
