Notes for Students with Specific Interests
Actors
All actors must take THEA 125, Fundamentals of Acting, which serves as a prerequisite for most acting classes. Admission to other performance classes for students who have not taken the prerequisites will be granted on the basis of an interview and/or audition with the instructor of the class in question.
Designers
Students with a serious interest should seek out the faculty members in design in order to discuss opportunities for serving as Assistant Designer. If possible, students should choose the Visual Arts as a concentration.
Preparation for Design classes:
Students should take THEA 110, Play Production, in preparation for THEA 171, Introduction to Theatrical Design, and THEA 295, Practicum.
Directors
Students with an interest in directing should supplement their course of study with Art History, Music History, and Dramatic Literature whenever possible.

General Notes to Advisors
Sequencing
The numbering sequence of Theatre courses implies an approximate sequential order. 100-level courses build a foundation for intermediate or advanced study and require no previous experience/skill. 200-level courses assume the existence of a fundamental knowledge base or skill level. 300-level courses assume broad knowledge and skill prior to enrollment. 400-level courses assume highly advanced skills and preparation.
Readiness for production work:
All majors must work behind the scenes on production through THEA 295, Practicum. In preparation for that work, students should take THEA 110, Play Production, as early in their careers as possible. It is a prerequisite for most practicums.
