Admission Requirements
Although admission requirements vary slightly for specific schools, most pharmacy schools require the following courses:
- Biology 114
- Biology 313 (Cell Biology)
- Biology 341 (Human Anatomy and Physiology)
- Chemistry 111 (General)
- Chemistry 112
- Chemistry 231 (Organic)
- Chemistry 232 and 235
- Physics 211 or 121 (General)
- Physics 212 or 122
- Two college-level Mathematics courses (Calculus is required by about 20% of schools.)
Additional course requirements in English, the Humanities and the Social Sciences are usually satisfied by completing
Recommendations
Prepharmacy students should take Chemistry 111 and Chemistry 112 in their first year.
First-hand experience within the field of pharmacy is highly desirable. This may be accomplished through an internship, summer employment and/or volunteer work.
The PCAT Exam
Students wishing to apply to pharmacy school must take the Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT). It is strongly recommended that they take this exam in June or October of their senior year. Application Process
Prepharmacy students should complete and submit their pharmacy school applications during the summer between their Junior and Senior years.
