International Students

Course Requirements

Foundations, Explorations, and Capstone are the same for the international student, except

  • The Foreign Language Requirement is waived for students coming from non-English speaking countries.
  • International students are not exempt from the Intercultural requirement

FYE 101

International students must take FYE 101 unless they

  • transfer to Guilford with 24 or more credits, or
  • are visiting as an exchange student for only one year.

Course Recommendations

Because of the level of English reading or writing ability required, first semester international students are discouraged from taking courses in Economics, Accounting, History, and Philosophy unless they demonstrate sufficient language proficiency.

One Year Exchange Students who place into English 101 must take English 101 during their first semester. Remaining courses should be determined through careful consultation with the Adviser, based on language proficiency and the proposed major field.
