The Program in Cape Coast

Every spring Guilford sends group of six to eight students to study at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. Students will study one of the local languages, Fante, but all other courses will be taught in English, which is the official language of instruction.

Students may choose from any of the courses offered by the University of Cape Coast, for example: "African Religion," "Sociology," "Economics," and "African Studies." In addition each student will choose a four-credit community involvement project, sponsored by a professor at the university.

Past projects have included setting up a library at a women's center, distributing information on water purification in surrounding villages, and working as a teaching assistant in a local school.

Guilford students live with families in Cape Coast and the surrounding area. Students are integrated into the everyday life of their respective families.
