The Program in London

London is one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities, and the Guilford program is designed to take advantage of this richness and diversity.

During a typical week in London, a student might take a walking tour to view the medieval architecture in the city, sit in on a session of Parliament, observe an inner-city school where 40 nationalities are represented, see a performance of a Shakespeare play at the National Theatre, hear a Jamaican rap poetry reading, listen to a free Mozart concert at St. Martin's-in-the-Fields, or attend a performance of contemporary African dance. As many people have said over the years, London offers endless variety.

The partnership of Guilford College and the Foundation for International Education (FIE) gives students the opportunity to experience this complex, multicultural society through interdisciplinary course work and tailored, academic internships.

The program features assigned, academic internships combined with several course options on British culture, art, literature, history, economy, business, design, and media. Field trips, guest lectures by London-based specialists, site visits, and other program activities are intergrated into FIE courses. During the first six weeks students work closely with FIE's internship team to finalize internship placement. As part of the placement process, FIE's internship team leads workshops with students to review interviewing techniques, the culture of the British workplace, and reflective learning skills. This program is offered both fall and spring semesters of each academic year. Please see the Study Abroad Office for current semester course offerings.
