Study Abroad
The Program in China
The Wake Forest/SASASAAS (the South Atlantic States Association for Asian and African Studies) program in China is designed for students who wish to begin or continue Chinese language study. Students also take two area studies courses in Chinese culture and society taught in English. The Fall semester program combines classroom instruction with a rich variety of extra curricular activities. This program allows students to take advantage of living in a country that is not only one of the world's oldest civilizations but one of today's fastest growing economies.
Location
The program is based at Capital Normal University (CNU), a key national university located in the central western part of Beijing. With nearly 10,000 undergraduate students and a sizeable graduate population, the campus is a vibrant community of students from Beijing and other parts of China.
Accommodations
Students live in a brand new, state-of-the-art foreign student dormitory. Clasrooms, faculty offices, a computer center, and library are also housed in this building. Students have the opportunity to live with a Chinese or American roommate.
Cultural Activities
There are regularly scheduled excursions to places of historical interest in and near Beijing, such as the Great Wall, the Ming Tombs, the Summer Palace, and the Forbidden City. There are also opportunities to attend performances such as the Chinese Opera and acrobatics. Visits to factories, rural villages and neighborhood communities serve to deepen the students' understanding of modern China.
