Curriculum

In a liberal arts education students are not limited to courses within one field of study only but are encouraged to take a wide variety of courses in several fields thereby increasing their overall knowledge. Guilford offers a core curriculum of courses that are taken by all students along with courses in the major field of study. All students complete a core curriculum with courses in reading and writing, historical perspectives, foreign language, intercultural course (focusing on Africa, Asia, Latin America, or the Middle East, or else study abroad in one of those areas), social justice/environmental responsibility and cultural diversity. In addition to these courses the student completes a major with a minimum of eight courses. Students do not need to declare a major until the end of their sophomore (second) year.
