Ongoing Initiatives

Discerning Vocation Series

The initiative invites speakers—occasionally collaborating with other campus offices—to explore the many paths individuals take in finding their calling in life, noting the discernment factors that may be common.

Community Conversations

The initiative seeks to create space for the Guilford community to discuss topics important to our vocation as a liberal arts college with a distinctive Quaker identity.

Quaker Leadership Scholars Program

In a cooperative effort with Friends Center, the initiative hired a new director for their 10-year-old Quaker Leadership Scholars Program (QLSP). As an experiment in ways to work with existing student groups to introduce vocational concepts and to teach discernment processes and reflection on gifts, QLSP will be under the auspices of the Initiative on Faith and Practice.

Interdisciplinary Leadership for Social Change Program

The initiative is working with the Interdisciplinary Leadership for Social Change Program, whose goals overlap with the initiative in significant ways. The program is in the process of finding a new director.

Taize worship

Borrowing songs from the Taize community in France, the initiative organizes worship once a month with music.  Participants are discovering the reality of the saying "Those who sing pray twice."

Community prayer

The initiative invites the community to gather for prayer weekly.

Clearness Processes

The initiative is grounded in Friends discernment practices, practices designed to help individuals or groups both listen for and hear deeper Wisdom from within.
