On Saturday, August 27, 2016, Guilford College will be putting its values into practice with the annual Guilford Day of Service. Last year, over 200 students, faculty, staff and alumni offered community service at more than 15 sites. Most of the sites were in Greensboro with one in New York City and one in Washington, D.C.
Student-led groups will head out all over Greensboro to serve with our many community partners in a variety of ways. Students can register to participate as individual volunteers or with their clubs, organizations, sports teams or residence halls. We encourage alumni, faculty and staff to register as well. For alumni, there will be service sites in some Alumni Chapter cities.
Participants can register as individuals or as a group. A group would include: FYS/FYE class, sports team & student club/organization. We also encourage alumni who are in the Greensboro area and those who would like to travel back for the Guilford Day of Service to register as well. We will end the day with a cookout and a reflection piece to capture the importance of the day and to talk about next steps.
The Guilford Day of Service is a reestablishment of the College tradition, College Work Day, in which the campus unified in support of projects like excavating the land that is now the Guilford Lake. This reiteration of the day reflects the goal of uniting our College community to practice our Core Values as members of the Greensboro community.
